thinking about summer...buoys

I want to silk screen buoys this summer, so I google-searched buoys, and found some awesome pics. They remind me of warmer weather at the beach. Too bad it's freezing outside...

Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree

Cut and decorated. Check and check.

For Us : )

I was able to sneak in a pillow for our room. A client off of esty ordered a pillow for her twelfth anniversary, and I realized Craig and I didn't have one. I've been slowly trying to pull the room together with grey and yellow; I painted the walls grey last winter, got all white bedding this past summer, and then made the yellow accent pillow this fall. I ordered this organic grey dot fabric from Birch Fabrics this fall, and paired it with grey canvas instead of the usual cream canvas cake (we had a dark chocolate cake anyways. I love the yellow piping around the cake, the big vintage button in the middle, and how the little hearts contrast on the grey. Very happy with it.

Busy December...

December is always my busiest month, and maybe the only time of the year when I have so many projects at once. Between two craft shows and etsy, I have about twelve pillow projectsHere are two of the snowmen, and an owl. More to post...

Making Snow Globes

I saw these really cute snow globes in the Sundance catalogue (super over-priced) that used mason jars as the globe. Then looked they up on Pinterest, and of course they were everywhere. I bought some sculpey, glitter and jars today, and we (my parents are here for Thanksgiving and my son Tanner also joined in the fun) started working tonight. Not a one night project. Very crafty, but fun.

Belts

These reversible belts were hand-printed with hand-carved stamps made by me. They are made with very studry canvas and muslin (so they stay put once you put them on), and finished off with a high quality acrylic resin buckle. I used the same stamp in the red and yellow belts to create the surface that I used to cover my bracelets. $30 each.

Owl tees

Somehow the owl looks bigger on the tee shirts than the softies. Nope, same owl. The first tee's colors are hard to capture on film; a really pretty grape-y purple paired with a ever-so-slightly metallic shade of peachy pink. My favorite combo of the three. The tees are by Bella, and they run really small, so I only did mediums and larges. Hoping to create more tee designs after Christmas. Oh, $25 each.

Snowman

Personalized Snowman pillows; your choice of hat and scarf color and family personalization, $40. On my couch already : )

Wedding and Anniversary

Two more completed wedding pillows; one hand-stitched one machine-stitched.

More printing

Printing on tissue paper today for wooden bracelets that I purchased on Etsy. They coordinate with my belts and tees. We'll see....

Student work

These paintings were just finished by my 5th grade students. We spent three art classes drawing outside. They were thinking about close and far, and trying to create the illusion of depth on a 2D surface. They also used oil pastels on their sketches to identify the shades of green, brown and surprising pops red, orange, pink and purple that make the greens look greener. The sketches were then translated into these 18 x 24 tempera paintings. I just hung these today on a bulletin board in my classroom and they are putting me in such a good mood.

Fair Isle

I am kind obsessed with Fair Isle. I was coveting a cute scarf from Boden, and then it sold out, so I decided to poke around Etsy to see if I could find something. I found MooCow Hand Knits http://www.etsy.com/shop/moocowhandknits. She is from Liverpool, England, and her work is functional and so cute. She is making this custom grey and hot pink (love this combo) cowl and fingerless glove set for me, and just sent me this pic today. LOVE.

Sidewalk Chalk

Sidewalk chalk with Gavin...it's crayola 3D. Much richer colors than the regular stuff, but still wears down really quickly...Better enjoy it now; Sandy is coming to wash it away!

3 Wise Monkeys

As an Elementary Art Teacher teaching at a VERY Halloween-friendly school, I feel compelled to come up with a creative costume every year. I have two other art teacher colleaugues, and we usually come up with a group idea. Lynn had this great idea to use paper bags to make feathered vests and then add a beak, but our school parade snuck up on us, and it was too complicated. This morning the "speak no evil, hear no evil, see no evil" monkeys popped into my head for some reason, so I googled "paper bag monkey". Paper Source (an awesome paper/art supplies store, if you haven't heard of it) did these sock monkeys (top pic). So, I copied their idea, but added the arms. We are going to wear them on our heads, and cut holes so we can see. We'll see how it works....
