Layering Process

I worked on all 10 of these new paintings as a group, almost treating them as one piece. This is the second layer, which was derived from the brickwork in the streets and walkways at Williamsburg. It was a fun process to puzzle the brushstrokes together. I was tempted to stop here.

I photographed these buildings while in Williamsburg. The shapes were simplified to create the next layer.

Next came the steps and fences. Love the unified repetition of the fence posts...

New Paintings - A Walk Down Duke of Gloucester, Williamsburg, VA

Acrylic and Acrylic Gouache
on canvas
6" x 8"

My family and I spent a three days at Colonial Williamsburg this past spring break. This small collection is based on the textures, patterns and simple shapes found in the buildings, fences, walkways and gardens of Williamsburg. These will be on display on Thursday, April 30th at Ivy Lane, in Old Town, Alexandria, VA (http://ivylaneliving.com/) for the "Capture Color" event.
